On what leave behind

Me and friends may participate in Psychedelics a little bit. Last year during one of these trips we discussed the topic of having kids. My rigid notion was that havings kids was one of life's ultimate goals and without it you leave behind no legacy. However my friend - who didn't want kids - created this scenario where instead of procreation, you designed an AI. In this scenario "we pass our legacy not by genetics but by design". And this got me thinking, because its not solely through designing an AI we pass on information. There are infinite ways to introduce this concept of legacy. For example: linguistics. Consider the generations of people that inherited and modified the language you know today. Consider the system of governance that has been inherited which allows private and public enterprise to operate somewhat smoothly. On an individual level, consider the friends and those who have given you advice that changed your behaviour. Those people who have provided valuable advice, aka information which changed your state of existence have graciously donated to you their legacy and those of their parents. By definition, these are the people you should cherish.

Its an interesting way of thinking, in an world of changing relationship definitions this method of defining relationships hold steadfast. Ultimately these series of connected relationships forms the society we live in today. Let that be your legacy.
